Choosing Your Coverage

When it comes to making a decision what coverage is best for you, you will likely have choices. There will be differences in coverages, benefits, copays, deductibles, and costs to consider The choices available to you are shown in the four broad groupings below. Each have important considerations that should be understood before enrolling in a plan. Remember, it is always your choice!

Original Medicare

This choice is a likely low cost alternative. It's known as "Original Medicare" because it is enrollment in Part A and Part B and provides basic hospital and medical coverage. It may include a Part B premium, copays, and does not include prescription drug coverage.

Medigap or Medicare Supplement

Commonly known as Medigap or Medicare Supplement because it provides coverage for the "gaps" in Original Medicare. This choice can provide additional hospital and medical coverage while including additional benefits like meeting Original Medicare copays and deductibles. It can be coupled with a Prescription Drug Plan,

Medicare Advantage

This choice is Part C and is offered by independent insurance companies. These plans are known for their focus on wellness and preventative care. Coverage, benefits, and costs can vary greatly as they are typically geographic and network dependent and may include Prescription Drug Coverage.

Prescription Drug Plan

Many require a way to help defray the high cost of necessary prescription drugs. A Prescription Drug Plan addresses those concerns and can be coupled with other plans. It is important to check the plan formulary and tiering to ensure your prescriptions are covered.
